July/August 2011 eNewsletter

I hope everyone is keeping cool this summer!~
Summer is usually rather laid back here at The Red Camel, but not so this year! While most of you are busy with summer shows and festivals we have been stocking up on Red Camel Designs items and making plans for the busy fall season. I've had some good photos taken of our new bustle belts and have just added them to the web site. We also have recently listed several other styles of Red Camel dance belts and a few new Red Camel Designs necklaces.

It's been incredibly hot here, so stay cool for the rest of the summer and as always thanks for being an eNewsletter subscriber!
The Red Camel

You may have noticed the absence of the May/June eNewsletter issue. In addition to having a busy summer I also have a family obligation which may necessitate my absence from the office on occasion. Email response may also be delayed a bit during this time, but shipments will go out on schedule. Thanks for your patience!

Tell your friends about us!~

If you'd like to tell others about The Red Camel, you can 'tell a friend' about an item by clicking the button on the product page. I'd also love to see more of you and your friends on Facebook so I can keep in touch with you and what you are looking for. You can also recommend our Facebook page to friends

Yemeni items and more old silver~
I've recently pruchased some Yemeni items and some great tribal silver pieces. These will all be previewed in a Sneak Peek so keep an eye out for these great pieces SOON!

Question on DIY Items~
I try to package DIY items in quantities that I think you will want or need, but recently I've had a few suggestions that you'd like coins in smaller quantities. Would you prefer mixed round coins in quantities smaller than 100? Scallop edge coins in quantities smaller than 50? Email me and let me know what you'd like to see.

Feedback Appreciated!~
I hope you like the new eNewsletter format and can find the information you need more easily. I've also tried to make it more informative, including bits of info on how to use tribal elements in constuming, more photos and items of interest about tribal cultures and people. If you have a suggestion about other ways to make this eNewsletter better, please let us know by emailing feedback@redcamel.net

Coin necklaces and coin trim on clothing began with tribal and gypsy peoples who literally wore their wealth. Coin necklaces of all types are great for costuming making. Not only can they be worn as jewelry, they can be added to costuming just as they are, and they can easily be taken apart to use the pieces wherever you wish.

Nepali coin necklaces are wonderful for this. They are usually made with old Indian coins which are more expensive to purchase separately, so using a necklace could be a considerable savings. Sometimes they are made with old Nepali coins which are more difficult to find on their own, so if you want something unusual, these may do the trick.

I have several Nepali coin necklaces on the web here in the Small Necklaces category. I also have several that are not currently listed on the web. If you'd like to see them, please email me! deb@redcamel.net

In many cultures the ears are believed to be vulnerable and easily accessed by evil spirits. Many earrings are considered to be amuletic and are worn to protect this vulnerable site. Baby girls in Central Asia and India have their ears pierced in several places at an early age so they can be protected all their lives. In other cultures, heavy embroidery at the shoulders and sleeves of clothing also fulfills this function.

Protect yourself beautifully with exquisitely embroidered Turkoman coats and beautiful carnelian earrings! You can see all the Turkoman and Central Asian items in stock here!

When I recently made a large purchase from Pakistan, some of the items I wanted were not available so were replaced with tassels - lots and lots of old, fantastically gorgeous tassels!! (Can you tell that tassels are a personal favorite of mine??)

Some of them have been listed on the web site here, but many of them are still hanging around in the office, waiting to be part of that special costume. I have Turkoman black silk, Turkoman beaded, Kuchi beaded and some miscellaneous other tassels available off line. If you are looking for something not shown on the website, please email me and I'll see if I have something in stock that will fit your needs!
